হাদীসের আলোকে জ্বীনদের প্রকারভেদ
রাসূল ﷺ বলেছেন,
الْجِنُّ ثَلَاثَةُ أَصْنَافٍ صِنْفٌ لَهُمْ أَجْنِحَةٌ يَطِيرُونَ فِي الْهَوَاءِ وَصِنْفٌ حَيَّاتٌ وَكِلَابٌ وَصِنْفٌ يُحلُّونَ ويظعنونَ.
জীনেরা তিন প্রকার। একপ্রকার জিনের ডানা আছে, তারা বাতাসে বা শূন্যে উড়ে বেড়ায়। দ্বিতীয় প্রকারের জীন সাপ ও কুকুরের আকার ধারণ করে বসবাস করে। আর তৃতীয় প্রকারের জীন কোন এক নির্দিষ্ট স্থানে অবস্থান করে এবং তথা হতে অন্যত্র চলেও যায়। শারহুস্ সুন্নাহ্ ৩২৬৪, সহীহ ইবনু হিব্বান ৬১৬৫, সহীহুল জামি‘ ৩১১৪
ইমাম ইবনু আব্দিল বার রহিমাহুল্লাহ এই তৃতীয় প্রকার জ্বীনদের সম্পর্কে বলেছেন,
ما يَحُلُّ ويَظعَنُ: الغُولُ، والسِّعْلاةُ، وهوَ ضَربٌ من ضُروبِ الجِنِّ، وفَرعٌ مِنهم يَتَصَوَّرُ في القِفارِ والطُّرُقِ لَيلًا ونَهارًا، فتُفزِعُ المُسافِرَ، وتَتَلَوَّنُ ألوانًا في صوَرٍ شَتَّى، مِنها قَبيحةٌ ومِنها حَسَنةٌ. يُنظر: ((الاستذكار)) (8/ 527).
অবস্থান করে ও অন্যত্র চলে যায়: ভুতপ্রেত এবং রাক্ষসী, দানবী, পিশাচী, পেতনী ইত্যাদি এরা হলো জ্বীনদের মধ্যকার একটি প্রকার। এবং তাদের একটি শাখা যারা দিনরাত মরুভূমি এবং রাস্তাগুলিতে লুকিয়ে থাকে, ভ্রমণকারীকে ভয় দেখায় এবং বিভিন্ন রঙের রূপ ধারণ করে যার মধ্যে কিছু কুৎসিত এবং কিছু ভাল।
তিনি আরও বলেছেন,
الجِنُّ عِندَ أهْلِ الكَلامِ وأهْلِ العِلمِ باللِّسانِ يُنَزَّلونَ على مَراتِبَ؛ فإذا ذَكَروا الواحِدَ مِنَ الجِنِّ خالِصًا قالوا: جِنِّيٌّ، فإن أرادوا أنَّه مِمَّن يَسكُنُ مَعَ النَّاسِ قالوا: عامِرٌ والجَمعُ عُمَّارٌ، وإن كانَ مِمَّن يَعْرِضُ للصِّبيانِ قالوا: أرواحٌ، فإنَّ خَبُثَ وتَعرَّمَ فهوَ شَيطانٌ، فإنْ زادَ على ذلك فهوَ مارِدٌ، فإنْ زادَ على ذلك وقَوِيَ أمرُه قالوا: عِفْريتٌ، والجَمعُ عَفاريتٌ.

আহলে কালাম ও ভাষাবিদদের নিকট জ্বিন জাতির বিভিন্ন প্রকারভেদ আছে। যেমন-
১। যখন তারা কেবল একজন জ্বীনকে উল্লেখ করেন তখন বলেন জিন্নী।
২। যে জ্বিন মানুষদের সাথে (তাদের বাসাবাড়িতে) বসবাস করে, তার কথা বুঝাতে চাইলে বলেন, আমের, এর বহুবচন হলো উম্মার।
৩। যে জ্বীন শিশুদেরকে উত্যক্ত করে, তার কথা উল্লেখ করতে চাইলে বলেন, আরওয়াহ।
৪। আর যদি সে খবীস বা দুষ্কৃতিকারীর আকারে উত্যক্ত করে তখন তাকে বলেন, শয়তান।
৫। এর চাইতে বেশি ক্ষতি করলে বলেন, মারিদ।
৬। এর চাইতেও বেশি দুর্ধর্ষ হলে বলে, ইফরীত; এর বহুবচন হলো আফারীত।

এ সম্পর্কে ইমাম মোল্লা আলী কারী রহিমাহুল্লাহ বলেছেন,
«الجِنُّ ثَلاثةُ أصنافٍ» وهم أجسامٌ هَوائيَّةٌ قادِرةٌ على التَّشَكُّلِ بأشكالٍ مُختَلِفةٍ، لَها عُقولٌ وأفهامٌ وقُدرةٌ على الأعمالِ الشَّاقَّةِ… وصِنْفٌ يَحلُّونَ: بضَمِّ الحاءِ وبِكَسرٍ أي: يَنزِلونَ ويُقيمونَ تارَّةً، «ويَظعَنونَ» أي: يُسافِرونَ ويَحلُّونَ، أي مَرَّةً أخرى.

জীনেরা তিন প্রকার। এবং তারা বায়বীয় দেহের অধিকারী, তারা বিভিন্ন আকার-আকৃতি ধারণ করতে সক্ষম, ব্রেইন, বোধশক্তি এবং কঠোর পরিশ্রম করার ক্ষমতার অধিকারী… আর আরেক প্রকার তারা মাঝে মধ্যে অবতরণ করে এবং অবস্থান করে আবার অন্য সময়ে সফরে চলে যায়।
